Culture Trip Interview

Yey! My first ever video interview is out! Culture Trip has posted in the past an article about The Uncomfortable that went super viral, so I was very excited to work with them to make this video interview!

It was filmed on January at Void studio downtown Athens by Vincent Vaury.

First thing you see are the 3d printed chairs from Shapeways, and everything else is all the prototypes I made for my exhibition in Zagreb design week!

Enjoy!

“You can make people work harder for the objects they use every day” – Katerina Kamprani.
I wonder what the potential implications of this sentiment would be if it were adopted on a wider social level. From consumers to manufacturers to designers and back again?

I love your work Katerina and I think ‘the uncomfortable’ project is really great.

I pondered your statement above years ago when I was doing my undergrad. My lecturer at the time suggested I research ‘critical design’. A design attitude, which used product design to challenge assumptions and preconceptions.

Could we live in a world where our products challenge us? Could the uncomfortableness be beneficial to the everyday user? For example, could we create a microwave that requires you to perform a quick math problem that would equal the time we want our food to be cooked for? I guess I just wonder, could products like yours be used to suspend unconscious behavioral patterns allowing the average consumer (or one interested in personal growth and development) to forcibly stop and think throughout their day and consider their actions? Or are we destined to indefinitely design ourselves away from discomfort?
